Transfer Scholarships for 2020-2021

The University of Alabama offers very generous scholarship opportunities for qualifying transfer students. Complete the steps below to maximize your scholarship and aid opportunities.

IN-STATE

STEP 1:  Apply For Admissions

Admissions for Fall 2021

To receive an automatic merit scholarship listed below and consideration for competitive scholarship awards, students must be admitted to the main campus and submit the following admissions application materials before March 1.

Admissions for Spring 2022

To receive an automatic merit scholarship listed below, students must be admitted to the main campus and submit the following admissions application materials before October 1.

STEP 2:  Complete The Competitive Scholarship Application

For consideration for competitive awards, transfer students must enroll in the fall semester and be admitted before March 1. Competitive scholarships are offered to students who exhibit strong leadership experience, community involvement, and academic excellence. To be considered for the competitive scholarships below and all other competitive scholarship opportunities, students must be in-state residents and complete the scholarship application. Students awarded a competitive scholarship who are also eligible for an automatic award will receive the scholarship with the higher value.

To complete the scholarship application,

  1. Go to ua.edu
  2. Log in and click the Admissions/Scholarships link from the main menu
  3. Then select the Application for Scholarships link within the Scholarships section of the page.

Once a scholarship application has been submitted, changes cannot be made to the application. All changes must be submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Scholarships using the Contact Form.

Competitive Scholarships For Alabama Residents Transferring From A 2-Year Institution Only With 45+ Transferable Credit Hours After The Completion Of The Fall Semester Prior To Enrolling.

  • Community College Presidential Scholarship Tuition for two years (four semesters). Community colleges within the state of Alabama are eligible to nominate their students. Please see your community college President’s office for information on the nomination process and requirements.
  • Financial Aid Community College Honors Scholarship Tuition for two years (four semesters)
  • Community College Excellence Scholarship Tuition for two years (four semesters)
  • National Alumni Association Community College Honors Scholarship $2,000 per year plus a book grant of $300 for two years (four semesters)

Competitive Scholarships For Alabama Residents Transferring From A 4-Year Or 2-Year Institution With At Least 15 Transferable Credit Hours After The Completion Of The Fall Semester Prior To Enrolling

  • Roll Tide Transfer Scholarship $3,000 per year

STEP 3: Qualify for An Automatic Scholarship

If enrolling in the Fall of 2021: Only first-time community college transfer students admitted before March 1 with at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA and 45 hours of transferable coursework completed after the completion of the fall semester prior to enrolling will be eligible for the following automatic merit awards.

If enrolling in the Spring of 2022: Only first-time community college transfer students admitted before October 1 with at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA and 45 hours of transferable coursework completed after the completion of the summer semester prior to enrolling will be eligible for the following automatic merit awards.

  • Community College Distinguished Scholarship A student with a 3.75 – 4.0 cumulative GPA will receive $5,000 per year for two years (four semesters).
  • Community College Achievement Scholarship A student with a 3.5 – 3.74 cumulative GPA will receive $3,000 per year for two years (four semesters).
  • Phi Theta Kappa Honors Scholarship Students who transfer from an Alabama community college with a 3.5 GPA and are members of the PTK Honor Society will receive $1,500 per year for two years (four semesters). This award cannot be combined with full-tuition scholarships. To receive this award students must select the PTK Scholarship on the scholarship application and upload proof of membership.
  • All-Alabama Academic Team Scholarship Students named to the team will receive $1,000 per year plus a book grant of $300 for two years (four semesters).

STEP 4: Complete Your FAFSA (Optional)

  • The Financial Aid staff is dedicated to making the financial aid process as straightforward as possible whether you are applying for grants, loans, work study, or student employment.
  • Please visit The University of Alabama Office of Financial Aid website for more detail. For students entering in the fall semester submit your FAFSA by December 1 to ensure priority consideration for all types of financial aid.

OUT-OF-STATE

  • Capstone Transfer Scholarship Covers the out-of-state portion of tuition for two years (four semesters)
  • Phi Theta Kappa Capstone Scholarship $6,000 for two years (four semesters)

Competitive Scholarships For Students Transferring From A 4-Year Or 2-Year Institution With At Least 15 Transferable Credit Hours After The Completion Of The Fall Semester Prior To Enrolling

  • Roll Tide Transfer Scholarship $6,000 per year
