The University of Alabama offers some of the most generous scholarship opportunities in the country for qualifying students. Students should meet the deadlines below to qualify for automatic merit and competitive scholarships.

Scholarship/Aid Timeline

Spring Semester 2023 Enrollment

  • October 1 – Application deadline for incoming transfer students. You must submit an application for admission and all supporting documents to be considered for automatic merit and competitive scholarships.
  • November 1 – Application deadline for incoming freshmen. You must submit an application for admission and all supporting documents to be considered for competitive scholarships.
  • December 15 – Freshman spring 2023 admission deadline for automatic merit and Alabama Advantage scholarships

Fall/Summer Semester 2023 Enrollment

  • December 1 – Student Financial Aid Priority Date for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • January 15 – Application deadline for incoming freshmen. You must submit an application for admission and all supporting documents to be considered for competitive scholarships.
  • March 1 – Application priority date for incoming transfer students. You must submit an application for admission and all supporting documents to be considered for competitive scholarships. Deadline to complete the Transfer Student Supplemental Scholarship Application.
  • March 1 – Application deadline for current UA students. You must submit your Current Student Scholarship Application to be considered competitive scholarships.
  • May 1 – Application deadline for incoming freshmen. You must submit an application for admission and all supporting documents to be considered for automatic merit and Alabama Advantage scholarships.
  • May 1 – Application deadline for incoming transfer students. You must submit an application for admission and all supporting documents to be considered for automatic merit and competitive scholarships (competitive funds may be limited).

The value of institution scholarship funds, or the combination of institutional scholarships, certain federal grants, federal loans, Academic Common Market and the faculty/staff Educational Benefit may not exceed the cost of attendance as outlined on UA’s Cost of Attendance page.  

PACT, Post 9/11 veteran benefits and external military scholarships will not be impacted by institutional scholarships or limited by cost of attendance. Students with Post 9/11 veteran benefits or external military scholarships can use institutional scholarships toward other educational expenses (room, board, books, etc.)
